Was Aleister Crowley a Satanist?

LilyTears: Wasn't Aleister Crowley a Satanist?: "The devil does not exist. It is a false name invented by the Black Brothers to imply a Unity in their ignorant muddle of dispersions. A devil who had unity would be a God."

It is commonly assumed that Aleister Crowley was a Satanist. Well, this seems to be yet another myth. Read the article above. How can one worship an entity he claims does not exist?

To Crowley, "Satan" was a form of the pagan Greek god Pan. This was quite different from the "devil" of the Christian Church, which Crowley neither believed in nor worshipped. However, it did net Crowley publicity in the yellow press when he appeared to worship Satan and act outrageously, and this he milked incessantly.

One could call Crowley a pagan of sorts, but he considered himself to worship the same deity as Muslims, Christians, Jews, etc. Crowley is best labeled a "Thelemite", refering to the philosophical and spiritual path of Thelema. Modern members of his group Ordo Templi Orientis could be of almost any religion faith or lack thereof, from Christian to Atheist.
